tradtional monte cristo are deep fried in a much thicker batter. I personally havent made this person recipe cause i have my own version of doing it. I used thick egg bread like Challah or a Brioche bread that can hold the batter. I use whole-berry cranberry sauce on the inside of the bread ham turkey swiss of course and a few slices of good.

  2. Take SD or JR & put mayo & mustard on each.
  3. Put SC on each slice followed by ham n turkey. Close sandwich.
  4. Dip each side n batter n toast till brown on each side. Melt butter n skillet. Heat to about 300. Or stove top to about MED or MED HI.
  5. Top with powdered sugar, preserves and/or syrup. Excellent with coffee. Enjoy!!!

Sometimes the Monte Cristo is served with preserves and topped with a dusting of powdered sugar, so I think breakfast is totally appropriate, don't you? We also enjoy these sandwiches with a small bit of honey. So far this is the Monte Cristo Sandwich that we like the best.
